About MeThe Year of Tina

The Year of Tina

The Story of a Lil Digital Nomad Newbie

Along with everyone on the planet, the past two years have drastically changed the course of my life.  COVID-19 changed a lot of my plans and definitely affected certain aspects of where I thought my future was headed.

But one thing that will forever stay constant is my love for travel and exploring new places.  Having the feeling of being somewhat “stuck” in my hometown made the urge for a move even more enticing.

I believe the best thing to come out of this global pandemic was a new acceptance of remote work in the corporate world. Realizing that employees can be just as productive by working from the comfort of their home was, in my opinion, revolutionary.  Fortunately, this increased flexibility has allowed me to take on a fully remote position as a Marketing Manager with a modern company that allows me to live wherever I want.

With that being said, I knew after two years of living in Milwaukee I wanted (maybe even needed) a change.  Since my lease ended at the beginning of September, I decided to pack up some suitcases and do at least a year of remote working in new places.  I jokingly called it the “Year of Tina” and my sisters really made it stick, telling everyone about my craziness. Which led to family and friends asking me what cities are next up for the Year of Tina.

So, to start off this new adventure I moved to New York City.  It is one of those places that everyone romanticizes about living in someday. After just over a week living here, I already completely understand the hype.  The food, neighborhoods, coffee, and nightlife have me so excited to spend the next three months here.

I am still figuring out what my next stop is, maybe somewhere in Central America, South America, or Europe? For any fellow digital nomads please let me know what your favorite cities and countries to work remotely are! I seriously love talking to other remote workers and would love any input you may have.

If your position is fully remote I highly suggest you should consider trying a new place for a little bit. Committing to a full year can be scary but maybe try a month or so. One of my close friends who isn’t normally remote asked her work if she could join me for two months and they said yes! You never know unless you ask! Life is too short and the world is to wide to be in one city for the rest of your life.

Although I sometimes do miss the office dynamic, the freedom to live wherever I want totally outweighs the daily chats at the water cooler 😉
